I wasn't entirely happy with my previous logo designs so I decided to do further digital development. The thought bubble imagery was a strong starting point so I began with this, incorporating it into the 'i' as opposed to the 'o'. I added highlights to give the impression it was a 3D bubble.
Another idea I had during the 150 logo workshop was a puzzle/maze, referencing the process aspect of nostalgia whilst also being a childhood game. I created a simple shape out of 3 circles which I then arranged and incorporated this imagery in several different ways; above, next, in and behind the type. I believe it works most effectively with a slab font, in this case, Museo Slab.
As nostalgia is a memory, I wanted to try and incorporate this into the logo. I used a tonal opacity to envision the type fading over time. I also substituted the 'S' for the number '5' in reference to the 5 senses. This could be applied to any colour.
I also looked at a circular logo design, having the decade/era in the centre.
Using a bold, serif type.
I went back to my original logo but moved the smaller thought bubble below as opposed to above. I also lowered the opacity on the type to give more emphasis to the thought bubble. Due to the simplicity and the simple correlation between type and imagery, I believe this is the most effective.
I liked the idea of using different imagery to represent a particular event or object therefore I decided to try and incorporate this into the logo above. As a stereotypical thought bubble consists of 3 circles, this gave a perfect placement for the imagery. However, I am unsure as to where these would be used unless a specific nostalgia was created based on the moon landing, for example.
Using the same line thickness for the thought bubbles:
