Brief 5 - Initial development

After choosing the brief and knowing I wanted to look into publication design, I decided to create a set of informative and engaging publications. The brief outlined that the content must inform and / or educate. I chose to explore cognitive senses of food other than the taste itself — this included the colour, the appearance / form and the texture.

I am initially focusing on the colour publication and wanted to explore stock formats and colour combinations. I began looking at initial layout designs including the cover and various possibilities for the content itself.

I then looked at a few typefaces to see which could be used for the copy within the publication. Although I liked the serif fonts, I thought it was more fitting to use a sans-serif to ensure a more contemporary aesthetic.
















I ultimately chose Avenir due to its versatility within its weights and clean and geometric form. I incorporated an em dash within the (sort of) identity to reinforce this versatility. Em dashes are typically used to denote a break in thought so decided this would be useful to use within the titles of the different publications.
