When designing the logo, I began experimenting with various colour swatches to create a sample of colours I could use throughout the Woodside branding. I used initial photographic research as a basis for the swatches, focusing primarily on building materials and tools. I looked at a subdued and muted colour scheme to reference raw materials.
As my publication will feature full colour imagery, I wanted to choose a limited colour palette which could compliment the photographs but also be used as brand signifier. I chose a vivid orange - a brick-like colour, a dark brown which again can be associated with materials and a light grey to act as a neutral balance.
I used the Pantone solid uncoated swatch book as a reference to see what Pantone swatches closely resemble the colours I chose. However, as it will be a CMYK print and is a relatively small business, using a Pantone colour palette is not feasible but was useful to see what the colours may look like when printed.
