Brief 3 - Final MATILDA font

Matilda Bold

The name Matilda is derived from the subtle curve characteristic we added to some of the letterforms — most noticeably, the G, as this was based on the tilda glyph. The tilda is also featured heavily within our branding which Max and Yaf have been designing — it is used to link both the form (our inspiration) and the writing (our fonts and application).

My favourite glyph of the typeface is probably the R and how the letterform flows. It feels balanced and defines our typeface well. I believe it is well representative of our theme — street signs — as it is reminiscent of the R used in this French street sign:

We created a subtle curves on some of the terminals — depending on placement and letterform and in this particular example — to correspond with the curve on the crossbar of the G:

As the Inpress guys have let us be featured in their next event, they asked for our font to use within their own promotional material. I am really pleased with how this font has turned out.

Testing out the font within copy (this was for the crit). Hopefully we will create a more extensive set of glyphs and continuously expand the typeface. A lower case Matilda is also in the works!
