Brief 2 - Exhibition guide design

I decided to go ahead with the vertical reveal concept. I've started to mock up the guide in InDesign, using the copy from their website that describes what there is to find in each of their collections. I decided to use a full bleed photograph that peeks out slightly when the cover is cut. I used the same dimensions as my initial mock up as I believed this was the most effective.

Using the same typeface and colour scheme, I set the type on a simple grid as there was only a brief amount of information. I'm starting to think whether doing a guide for each exhibition is the best idea?

I had to account for the cut of the cover so I moved the text frame towards the photograph. I also tried a different font styling to differentiate the introduction to Ethnology to what the collection involves.

For the back, I looked at a couple different combinations and played around with the positioning and composition until it corresponded well with the poster designs. Again, I just used white text as to not overcomplicate the colour palette (also as this could be applied to the other exhibition guides as they'd each have a different backdrop colour).

I also incorporated the tagline I used in other material to reinforce the concept — this was accompanied by a couple of contact details. I only included twitter and the website as these guides will be displayed in the museum itself.

Printed an initial mock up just to check how it looks printed. Couple of things I need to change but overall, I'm pleased with the concept and how it's turned out.

...and the final colour print (still needs some alterations and the stock with ultimately change). I will create the exhibition guides for the other collections using the same concept but a different colour palette.
