Here are several images explaining some ideas I have devised - both hand-drawn and on the computer. The following image explains a 'revealing process' from the original places logo into one which incorporated a lock (as featured in one of my final posters). The first sequence starts with a lock and has it closing whereas the second begins with the original logo and forms the lock. I will now incorporate this into an envelope design.
This will be the front of the envelope with certain aspects cut out in order to form the revealing process. The second part of the lock itself (highlighted) as been cut out revealing the colour white on the insert of the envelope. The locking mechanism however, is different as rather than going from white > blue, it is the opposite way around. This way, when the far edge of the insert goes past the cut out mechanism, it reveals the white of the back of the envelope (my prototype shows this).
The 'insert' is pulled out, slowly revealing the lock.
As the white strip had to be there in order to form this revealing process, I needed to incorporate this into the design somehow. As the 'places' feature pointed to your whereabouts via a map, I manipulated the white strip into a google street view which I could add a pin or other image into.
Top left had to be empty for the locking mechanism to be revealed. However, I could add some text in the space which is available.
