Speaking from Experience - Possible icons?

From my idea generation, one possible design idea was to have minimal icons which represented a printing method/one of the facilities at Leeds art. This can then be incorporated into whatever deliverable I intend to create - a small handbook, for example. I therefore experimented with various design ideas - trying to convey each one with as little imagery as possible.

The following was derived from various printer imagery I have seen now and again. A printer, reduced to its bare minimum, is composed of a main body, paper feed and printed outcome therefore I wanted to depict this in my logo design. I kept the components separate so they were easy to distinguish and not just one silhouette.

Again, with screen printing I wanted to convey the process in the simplest form of possible - a screen and the ink to produce the prints, hence the following. However, I have looked at other possible designs (below) to portray the process/concept more clearly but still retaining a minimal aesthetic.

I have also looked at initial colour schemes, at the moment they are randomly chosen colour from the swatch panel so this needs to be refined. Maybe each icon has a different colour and this colour is transferred to corresponding content - depending on the amount of content I wish to have in the final outcome, this could help the recipient locate what they desire.

When I first started this design course, I had limited knowledge on traditional printing methods - facilities of which are abundant in the college. The first year is centered on experimentation, trying new ideas and ultimately failing in order to learn from your mistakes. First year students should therefore take full advantage of the diverse range of facilities and resources available at LCA.

I intend to create a chosen deliverable to inform students on what resources and facilities there are, what they are and where you can find them. This can be accompanied by tips and tricks, price guides, timetables etc all of which the recipient can source in one outcome rather than having to find out all the information themselves. I want the information to be easily accessible, concise and to-the-point as masses of information will ultimately be ignored.

Speaking from Experience - Workshop

For the 'Speaking from experience' workshop, we were required to bring 5 examples of problems we've faced since accepting a place on the course; 5 things we wanted to create and 5 subjects/concepts we wanted to explore (as outlined in a previous post). Me and chris initially worked together to discuss these ideas and decide which had the most potential. After 5 were chosen, we were then asked of 5 ways of solving each of these individual problems. To explore these in more depth once again, we were asked to think of 5 deliverables for each of these problem solving ideas.

After devising an extensive idea sheet, we needed to pick 2 to form two different rationales. This was given to someone else chosen at random, in this case, Liv to then analyse and provide another perspective on our idea. One idea Liv suggested was a poster series indicating what process has been took for it to be printed; such as 'This was screen printed' etc.
