Top 10 - Finalised top 10

Using the survey results I received, I have devised the following top 10 films of 2011. However, I decided to include 'Drive' to substitute 'Limitless' as I thought this film was brilliant. This list may differ however if more people finish the survey. The majority of these are also some of the highest grossing films of 2011. (in no particular order)

  1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt.2
  2. Transformers: Dark of the Moon
  3. The Hangover 2
  4. Paul
  5. Super 8
  6. X-Men: First Class
  7. Rise of the Planet of the Apes
  8. The Kings Speech
  9. Bridesmaids
  10. Drive

Just realised I missed The Inbetweeners Movie, I've gotta incorporate this one somehow. I might even do an 'honourable mentions' list.

Top 10 - Films of 2011 Survey

I collated as many films as possible from the lists previously posted in order to gather a fair estimate as to what people believed to be the top 10 films of 2011. I set up a survey online and distributed this online. Along with asking what their favourite films were, I also asked what their favourite film genre was.

Here are the top results and the amount of votes they received (this will update as I get more results).

12 - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt.2
8 - Transformers: Dark of the Moon
7 - The Hangover 2
6 - Paul
6 - Super 8
6 - X-Men: First Class
6 - Rise of the Planet of the Apes
5 - The Kings Speech
4 - Thor
4 - Bridesmaids
4 - Limitless

And the movie genres...

16 - Comedy
12 - Action
11 - Animation
8 - Drama
6 - Adventure
5 - Documentary
5 - Sci-fi
4 - History
4 - Horror
3 - Fantasy
3 - Romance
2 - Thriller
2 - Biography
2 - Crime
1 - Rom-com
1 - Musical
0 - War
0 - Western

I posted it on several sites which is why someone decided to tick every box (hence why all of the less known films all have at least 1 vote) - I just deducted 1 from every result.

Top 10 - Films of 2011

Many newspapers, broadcasters and film magazines have published their list of what they believe to be the top films of 2011, some of which are below. There are several movies which appear in almost every list, proving these are widely respected - these include Drive, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Submarine, The Tree of Life and so on.

I will base my list on UK releases, hence why films such as Black Swan, The Fighter etc are in the list. Some of these films were released in 2010 overseas but were only released in the UK in 2011.

From cutting edge, motion-capture and 3D technology to a love letter to the golden age of silent movies, the list represents a diverse year in cinema.

Guardian's best films of 2011

Quite a few critics' best-of lists have implied 2011 was a pretty average year for popcorn movies. Throw in the fact that 2012 is set to deliver The Dark Knight Rises, Prometheus and the first part of The Hobbit, and it doesn't augur well for an annual round-up of the past 12 months' top fanboy-friendly films. But while there has been nothing this year to compare with the head-spinning brio of 2010's Inception or the epic, flawed genius of 2009's Watchmen, the overall quality of fantasy, sci-fi and comic book fare has definitely been on the way up.

Top 10 Starting points

I began to think of several starting points for the 'Top 10' brief. I decided to go with the top 10 films of 2011 as I am extremely passionate about film and watched many movies last year. Through a survey, I can gather information regarding the most watched movies and use the results to collate a 'top 10'. Through analysis of these films, I can gather iconic imagery, scenes and quotes which could possible form the basis of my idents.
